The Living Room is a family-owned, family-run business, supported by our community of friends and neighbors who shop, consign, and volunteer here. A mom (Katie) with the encouragement of my family and friends. Our goal is to go with Christ into the marketplace, learn what He wants us to learn, do the work He's planned for us to do, and be part of changing lives--ours and others around us.
Our selection of consigned furniture, art, gifts, cards, books, crafts, tea and treats is always changing:
~ Furniture and home furnishings on consignment
~ Gallery of original arts and crafts by local artists and craftspeople
~ Refreshments from local bakeries, fair trade, organic teas and chocolate, brewed-to-order coffee
~ Check out our community bulletin boards for neighborhood classified ads and events.
Things:
Some things are necessary and some things are useful and some things are just nice to have around, but all things are mostly an excuse to interact with people and build relationships. Sometimes we forget this, and if you think we have, please remind us.
Service:
~We based this business on consignment because we wanted to help our friends: people who need to downsize or raise some cash, as well as people who need to find affordable home furnishings.
~ We expanded into art and crafts and gifts, again to help our friends who make original creations, but also because there's power in beauty, and it's good to have around.
~ We added the tea shop to our business plan because of The Golden Rule. I (Katie) like to stop for tea when I'm out shopping, and I love tea made with care. (No, don't bring me a pot of hot water with the bag on the side!!)
Money:
We need to be practical and pay the rent and honor our utility providers, etc., so that's where the buying and selling comes in. God puts limits on us to teach us all sorts of stuff...about reality, about humility, about what's really important....
People:
We're grateful to all the people who make our shop possible, blessing us in so many ways. We're grateful to God who makes it all possible and worthwhile through Jesus Christ.
Fun:
Not all days are fun, but there's joy in every day. Sometimes, joy is just by choice. Other times, it swoops you up and carries you along. This store has been a blast, even though it's been a lot of hard work and lots of lessons. Again, it's the people that make it worthwhile.
Prayer:
Our foundation. The reason we're here. If we can pray with you, or for you, please let us know.
